Bacon Cheeseburger Salad

Bacon Cheeseburger Salad

This is one of my favorite low carb meals...basically it's a bacon cheeseburger in a bowl without the bun. I've eaten hamburgers with a lettuce wrap plenty of times, but once I started eating it this way, it became the ONLY way I'd eat a hamburger. Ohhhh man this is so good and you will NOT miss the bun!

Directions

Simply break up your cooked, warm hamburger patty topped with your choice of melted cheese, and then add all your favorite hamburger fixins'... Lettuce, tomato, onion, cooked bacon crumbles, jalepenos, avocado, etc.,  Really just whatever you'd like and then add your condiments (I used mayo mixed with mustard) and stir it all up. The mixed flavors are fantastic! It's an amazing way to enjoy a hamburger without the bun!

I do this all the time at restaraunts too. Just order your burger however you'd like, but ask them to hold the bun and add extra lettuce. Then just cut it all up and there you go!

Now, if your like the OLD me and craving a little something extra to go along with your burger...try making some cheese chips ahead of time and then packing a snack sized baggie along with you for the restaurant. Seem tacky? Who cares! I do this all the time and no one has ever blinked twice at me for it. If you live low carb, you just have to learn how to make this lifestyle work for you. You never want to feel deprived of things you love. Sometimes it takes a little extra prep work, or doing something a bit out of your comfort zone but you will NOT regret sticking to your plan and being able to enjoy yourself as well.

Happy Low Carbing!

  3. I do this when I don't have time to make my lunch. I go by Wendy's and order the combo with a salad instead of the fries. I trash the bun (and croutons) and cut up the burger in my salad.

  4. I just found out I'm diabetic. Diabetes takes 10 years off your life. I wish I had always eaten like this. I'm so sorry I ever let my kids eat white bread. It's so horrible for us.

  5. Sharon: A great book to read is THE OBESITY CODE by Jason Fung M.D. I'm near finishing, and a better book doesn't seem possible. All answers are in it. I'm 7 years into low-carb, wish I had known everything in the book before I began, but even on my own I've lost 65 lbs since starting, feel great, and you can too. Don't get discourated, just go forward. You can do it if I can.
Hint: search online for the foods that raise your insulin level the least: one is heavy cream, just to give you the idea. More at www.dietdoctor.com. and at http://www.theketogenicdiet.org/
Good luck to you, don't be scared. You're going to feel much better and be much healthier in very few weeks. Try to find an M.D. who understands and will work with you on low-carb-high-fat lifestyle.
I'll pray for you. I'm Sharon too.

Thanks for visiting, I love hearing from you, however it still always surprises me how many mean and rotten comments I receive, so please remember that I post what I eat merely as a suggestion of ideas for others. Low carbing is not cut and dry. What works for me may or may not work for you. Also, I live exclusively low carb, but I don't live my life counting them so I don't often include the net carb counts on recipes. Happy low carbing ya'll! :)
